W2-3 "Multi-level hierarchical modelling; with a focus on modelling of type 2 diabetes"

Systems biology is a rapidly growing field, which has as its key component to integrate mathematical modelling as an analysis tool for biological data. Mathematical modelling has been used extensively in many other fields, but the application to systems biology raises some new challenges, which warrants the development of new and modified theoretical methods and modelling strategies. This workshop is devoted to one such challange: how to integrate models together in a multi-level hierarchical fashion. There will be general methodological discussions, but there will also be a clear focus on modelling of type 2 diabetes, where there will also be concrete discussions on the integration between experimental and modelling groups on various sub-systems. The talks will appear in 3 sections A preliminary schedule is available below. The lectures start on June 19 at 14, and ends late afternoon on June 20. June 21 is departure day, and available for informal discussions.

Apart from talks, we will also have general and specific discussions, including future applications in the same direction as M-INS, the joint arrangement of a Ph.D. course, and the joint authoring of a book on multi-level modelling of type 2 diabetes.

With the hope of an interesting time in Linköping!
